No. 02 · How We Calculate

The assumptions.

This calculator gives you a starting list. We refine it together when you book — adjusting for the season, the venue, what's available, and what your guests actually drink.

  1. 01

One drink per guest per hour

The industry baseline. Accounts for the natural pace of drinking across a multi-hour event. The "energy" adjustment scales this up or down based on the room you're hosting.

  2. 02

    Beer in cases of 24

Most beer is sold in 24-can or 24-bottle cases. We round up so you're never under. Order one case of light, one case of something local — guests drink half-and-half on average.

  3. 03

    Wine: ~5 glasses per bottle

A standard 750ml bottle pours about five 5oz glasses. We suggest splitting roughly half white, half red unless you know your crowd skews one way.

  4. 04

Liquor: 1.5L bottles, ~33 cocktails each

A 1.5L bottle of liquor yields about 33 standard 1.5oz pours — roughly twice what a 750ml bottle gives, at a better price per ounce. The cocktail count drives spirit quantity. Mixers, garnishes, and ice are included in our service — we'll tell you if anything's needed from your end.

  5. 05

Champagne toast: ~1 bottle per 10 guests

For a formal toast, plan one 750ml bottle for every 10 guests (roughly 6 toast pours per bottle, with some guests passing). Optional, and we'll only include it if you check the toast box.

  6. 06

    20% buffer, always

Better to return a case of beer than to run out at 9pm. Most retailers (Total Wine, Spec's, Twin Liquors) accept returns on unopened, sealed cases for events. Confirm with your store.

Per Texas law, the host is responsible for purchasing all alcohol — Uphill Taps does not hold a liquor license. We help you build the order, refine quantities together during planning, and pour everything on the night.
